What we use and why

You can browse without an account. Our website services process technical details such as IP addresses, browser information and requests to deliver pages, investigate faults and prevent abuse. We rely on our legitimate interests in operating a secure, reliable local guide.

If you email us, we receive your address, name if supplied, message and attachments. We use these to reply, investigate corrections and assess suggestions. This is in our legitimate interests in responding to enquiries and maintaining accurate editorial content. Please send only the information needed for your enquiry.

Author names, biographies and appropriate public business or organiser details may appear in our guides. These come from contributors, direct correspondence or the official sources linked in the relevant guide. We use them to credit work and help readers find local services. Sending a suggestion does not automatically put your private correspondence on the website.

Editor accounts contain a name, email address, securely hashed password and authentication information. We use these to control access to publishing and send password-reset messages. Public visitors cannot register editor accounts.

The services involved

• Vercel hosts the website and stores uploaded photographs in Vercel Blob.
• Neon stores the editorial database. The configured database and media storage regions are London.
• Cloudflare manages our domain records and forwards messages sent to our public contact address.
• Google Gmail receives and stores those enquiries.
• Resend delivers editor password-reset emails and processes delivery records.

These providers may process operational information outside the UK. A London storage setting does not mean all service processing stays in the UK. Their privacy information explains their locations and international transfer arrangements: Vercel, Neon, Cloudflare, Google and Resend. Contact us for information about the arrangements relevant to your enquiry.

How long we keep information

We keep correspondence while it is needed to respond or resolve an issue. If it supports a published guide or correction, we may keep the relevant record while it is needed to explain or verify that material. We review retained information and remove unnecessary personal details. Editor accounts are kept while access is needed. Service logs follow the providers’ retention settings. Restricted recovery copies may retain deleted information until they are replaced or expire.

Your choices and rights

You can ask to see or correct your personal information, or request its deletion or restricted use. The rights that apply depend on the circumstances. You can object to our use of your information based on legitimate interests. Use the contact address above and tell us what your request concerns. We may need enough information to confirm your identity.

You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office. We do not sell personal information or make automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects.

Optional analytics

If you accept analytics, Google Analytics 4 processes information about the pages you view, interactions, device and browser, and approximate location to help us improve the guide. Google receives technical connection information, including your IP address. We rely on your consent for this optional analytics. We do not load the Google tag until you accept. Advertising personalisation and Google signals are disabled in our tag configuration.

You can withdraw consent using Cookie settings at the bottom of any public page. This stops future analytics collection in that browser and removes this site's analytics cookies; it does not automatically erase information already received by Google. Google may process information outside the UK. See how Google uses information from partner sites. Analytics information is retained according to the property's Google Analytics retention settings.
