Gosport Ferry: timetable, prices and a practical guide
The Gosport Ferry is one of the simplest ways to travel between Gosport and Portsmouth. The harbour crossing takes around four minutes, with ferries running throughout the day from early morning until midnight.
For anyone travelling from Gosport, it also provides a useful connection to Portsmouth Harbour railway station, The Hard Interchange, Gunwharf Quays and the wider Portsmouth city centre without having to drive around Portsmouth Harbour.

Gosport Ferry timetable
The ferry operates every day, normally every 15 minutes.
Services from Gosport start at 5.30am, while the first Portsmouth departure is at 5.37am.
The last ferry leaves Gosport at 11.50pm, with the final Portsmouth departure at midnight.
Most departures follow the regular 15 minute pattern, although there are a few differences later in the evening. If you are relying on a particular sailing, especially the last ferry of the day, it is worth checking the official timetable before travelling.
Services can also change on bank holidays and during major events. There are no sailings on Christmas Day and a limited service operates on Boxing Day.

Current standard return fares from 2 April 2026 are:

The senior fare is available after 9.30am Monday to Friday and throughout weekends and bank holidays.
Return tickets are open ended, so you do not have to make your return journey on the same day.
Regular travellers can also buy 10 trip and season tickets. At the time of writing, an adult 10 trip ticket costs £22.40 and a 30 day adult season ticket costs £90.

Where is Gosport Ferry?
The Gosport ferry terminal is on South Street, next to Gosport Bus Station and close to the High Street.
On the other side of the harbour, the ferry arrives immediately beside Portsmouth Harbour railway station. The Hard Interchange for local and regional buses is also close by.
This makes the ferry particularly useful for journeys involving onward public transport.
If you are travelling from Gosport to somewhere served by Portsmouth Harbour station, you can cross the harbour and walk directly to the station rather than travelling around the harbour by road.
Gunwharf Quays is also within easy walking distance of the Portsmouth terminal.
Where can you park for Gosport Ferry?
The nearest parking on the Gosport side is beside the bus station, close to the ferry terminal.
There are several other council car parks around Gosport town centre. Parking charges and restrictions can change, so check Gosport Borough Council's current parking information before travelling.
On the Portsmouth side, parking is available within walking distance around Gunwharf Quays and Queen Street.
If you are making a return journey from Gosport, it may be worth comparing the cost and convenience of parking in Gosport and taking the ferry with driving into Portsmouth and parking there.

Wheelchair access
Both the Gosport and Portsmouth pontoons provide access for passengers using wheelchairs.
Wheelchair access on board is restricted to the main deck. The upper deck is not wheelchair accessible.

Buying tickets
On the Gosport side there is a ticket office as well as ticket machines.
On the Portsmouth side, ticket machines are located at the top of the pontoon.
The machines accept cash and debit or credit cards, according to the ferry operator.
If you use the crossing regularly, look at the multi trip and season tickets rather than automatically buying individual returns.
What is on board?
The regular ferry service has both enclosed seating and open deck areas.
There are no refreshments available during the normal harbour crossing, although with a journey of around four minutes you are unlikely to have time for much of a coffee anyway.
Facilities vary between vessels and wheelchair users remain on the main deck.
Connecting with trains and buses
One of the most useful features of the ferry is the location of its two terminals.
In Gosport, the ferry is beside the bus station.
In Portsmouth, it arrives beside Portsmouth Harbour railway station and close to The Hard Interchange.
This makes journeys such as Gosport → ferry → Portsmouth Harbour train relatively straightforward and gives Gosport residents access to rail services without first travelling by road around the harbour.
